Section 12: Analysis of completed sequence

Question 1-
Before we made our film we did some research as a class into what codes and conventions thriller films contained, this gave us some ideas of what our film should portray. We used the research and instantly knew we needed a villian and a victim. We looked at some other films to give us an idea of how we could do the opening scene of our thriller and stay in genre. The opening scene starts with a dark night in an unknown destination with just one boy walking the camera follows him through the dark streets but we do not see his face this then gives the impression that he is dangerous and has something to hide, we knew this would fit extremely well into the thriller genre. In one film we watched Red Eye this idea of no identity came from this film as we see a mans hands and body but never his face so we know instatly that he is trouble. Also another film we watched was 'State Of Play' this is set at the night time and goes staright into the story this gave us the idea for our opening scene as that is set at night which gives a more scary vibe to film as more crime and murder happens at the night time, as our opening scene starts at night this gives the idea that some sort of crime is going to be performed.

Question 2-
In our film we have shown different social groups just using two people, the two people were also male and female. The male is dressed in a dark hoodie with the hood up so we dont really see his face also he has black pants on. As he is dressed all in black this can represent that he is feeling down, depressed, dangerous. Also that he has his hood up could portray that he does not want to reveal his identity and this could lead to him doing something dangerous. So this is a mysterious, unstable character. Also the way he walks with his head down walking strong shows that he is determined, and knows what he is about to do.
The other character is the complete opposite of the boy, she is girly and a happy person. The way she is dressed shows us she is in fashion and must be social as she wears leggings and cardy which is the trend amongst teens at the moment. Also this could show that she is happy with herself as she is dressed nice and ready to go out somewhere maybe. Also she seems very normal and pleasent as her scene shows her in her house doing normal things a teenage girl would do, showing us she is happy and in good help.
Both these characters represent different particular social groups as they both fit into different groups in society which gives our film balance.

Question 3-
Getting your film distributed is hard as you would have to know the right company that would distribute your film. We would need a company that specialises in distributing a low budget british horror film. As that is the category our film fits into. It is important for your film to be advertised so the public will know to come and see it and also to get the film out to the public. i researched on some distributing companies and found some great distributing companies;
http://filmbudgetpro.com/ this one company is good because it specialises in what type of material you are making so that there budget fits your product. I also found another company which also makes distributing your film very easy as it gives you a step to step guide on how they will distribute your film; https://www.createspace.com/.
I found another website that fit more of what i was looking for http:www.bbc.co.uk/filmnetwork/filmmaking/.../distribution/links-exhibition-and-distribution-features this is based in the U.K and is a lot easier for me.

Question4-
The target audience for our film would be teens in the age range of 16-20, this is because the characters and the story line fit the same lifestyle as older teens, as it based between two teenagers who go to school, and other teens could relate and be more interested as the thought of a horror film coming to life can be entising. We targeted the film at this age range because we used peple within this age range which can be more appealing to people the same age.

Question 5- In our film we aimed it at teens mostly as they story line was about teens, we made it very realistic as the events in the film have happend in real life, we knew this would draw people in and want to watch it as people tend to be attracted to things that can really happen, people are drawn to danger and mystery. We gave out questionaires which would give us some information on what the audience would like to see in the film. We gave the questionaires to teens as we knew this was our target audience so we wanted research that would fit our film. When we gathered our information we based our film on our research so it would be successful. In making our film we knew that audeince research was very important as we would want to make a film that was successful and attracted our target audience.

Question6-
I learnt a lot about the technologies of editing our film we used different techniques when editing as we needed to alter certain things, like one scene was shot in the day and one was shot at night and they were supposed to be at the same time, so we had to use a blue filter to make it appear as they were both at night. Also we used a lot of cutting when editing as we needed to constantly cut from one scene to another all the way through. In the editing we used it cut down scenes and make our film as edgy as we wanted to make the thriller genre stand out as soon as it first comes on the screen.

Question 7-
I have learnt a lot from the preliminary task to making our opening scene to a thriller, we had to use lots of different angles on the camera and also we had to do a lot more movement with the camera, and had to do a lot more hand held work. In the preliminary task we mostly used the tri pod but in one of our scenes the camera was held and walked with to create the effect we wanted. Before we started to make our films we was also taught how to use the traker that we could put the camera on to move easily. I also learnt to do the scenes from all different angles to get the best effect and result to make our film to good standards and more realistic and professional.
